More specifically, the West Side, here on the coast = Santa Monica. Trying to keep the observations location-specific. IE, drivers and pedestrians and cyclists that should all be shot = not specific to Santa Monica.
Good - The weather is very mild for most of the year. - The beach is just down the street. - Lots of things within walking distance. - A decent number of restaurant choices for vegetarians/vegans like me. - A good public school system.
Bad - Cost of living here is ridiculously high. Prices are higher here than they are five miles from here. - Constant, ongoing construction. - Traffic is awful. Parking is impossible; deliberately, on the part of city government. - Homeless people everywhere, sleeping in my parking spot, using the side of my building for an outhouse. - Air Pollution so bad that everything gets coated in grime again just a few days after you wash it. Cars, windows, blinds, anything in your apartment that's at all near a window. And yet they continue to eat outside and want their "malls" to be open. Idiots. - It's flippin' noisy here! Car alarms and horns, sirens, construction, leaf-blowers, even very loud people! I'd love to measure the noise pollution level, but no one would care.
Bottom line is that I'd move somewhere cheaper, quieter and cleaner, given the option. What's it like where you live?
