I just pre-ordered A World at War from GMT, a boardgame that supposedly descends all the way from AH's Rise and Decline of the Third Reich (1974). And THAT was a game I stared at on the shelves often, back in the day. I almost snapped up a used copy of the original, but the idea that the ambiguities had been straightened out, gameplay had been streamlined, and other arenas (the Pacific theater) had been included were just too much to resist. I haven't done a lot of hex and chit gaming in recent years, but I'd like to get started. And the publishers support Vassal usage, so I'm hoping to have some fun. Here's a link: link

OK, I caved and cancelled my pre-order in favor of the 50th Anniversary edition of Axis and Allies. Another game I've stared at longingly for years and years. It looked more approachable. We'll see if I can get anyone to play, and if not, if I can work up the time and gumption to play solo. Wish me luck!
