A Chinese English-language tech news website, Pandaily, announces that Hasbro and Chinese video game company Tencent are in talks for Tencent to purchase Dungeons and Dragons. It may not be entirely clear whether they mean to purchase outright, or simply buy certain rights such as for video games. Apparently Hasbro first approached Larian Studios (creators of Baldur’s Gate 3), but they have insufficient funds and are now serving as an intermediary between Tencent and Hasbro. (Tencent is a minority investor in Larian.) link to Pandaily story

Wizards of the Coast provided the following statement to Dicebreaker: "We regularly talk to Tencent and enjoy multiple partnerships with them across a number of our IPs. We don’t make a habit of commenting on internet rumors, but to be clear: we are not looking to sell our D&D IP. We will keep talking to partners about how we bring the best digital experiences to our fans. We won't comment any further on speculation or rumors about potential M&A or licensing deals." Which is what they would say whether the story is true or not. And it's not an "internet rumor," it's a reported news story with verified legit sources. Not that I'd place a bet on either outcome. We can only watch. link
