Jim was a freshly-minted college grad when he met Gary, way back in 1974 when D&D was still brand new. Gary invited Jim to his home, and let him play in his D&D campaign. Jim eventually ended up going to work at TSR, and they published his games Metamorphosis Alpha and Gamma World.
But I just recently read an interview with Ward that was not all sunshine and lollipops. In it, Jim was asked about the infamous lawsuit by TSR twenty years later, against Gygax and GDW over the RPG Dangerous Journeys. So Jim says that he’s proud that he was TSR’s expert witness in these cases, and that Gygax deserved to lose because he used too many AD&D concepts in the new game.
OMG. He stabbed his friend in the back. Just like that. Et tu, Brute?
Guess from now on I’ll only buy used copies of anything Ward wrote. I certainly won’t give him any money.
